Wood Finishes

stainStandard stains range from clear to nearly opaque. The process of staining and finishing helps to enhance, blend, or minimize this grain and bring out the true beauty. These finishing processes vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, and we recommend you check out their websites and review your stain ideas with your design consultant.

glazed cabinetGlazed finish is an additional furniture finish treatment applied to improve a standard stain, enhance door detail, and even out wood species variation. Standard glaze, highlighting, is applied to the entire surface of the cabinet and doors and then wiped off, leaving hang-up in the recessed areas.

Brushed glazing is a technique done with a staining brush. You actually see the streaks left behind by the brush. In either application, the glaze will vary slightly from cabinet to cabinet. Glazing is a hand-applied, artistic finish and, like paintings, no two cabinets will be identical.

Paintable finishes are opaque and can be applied to the surface of maple or similar wood and MDF or medium-density fiber board. Painted finishes over maple or similar wood will crack at the joint as the wood expands and contracts.

Thermofoil is 100% solid-colored vinyl. With adhesive on its underside, it is applied to smooth, engineered wood or MDF which has been formed into a door, drawer, or molding design. It has solid, opaque coloration and is easy to clean and maintain.
